Webcasts - Problems with IP Audio.
Try checking your system volume settings and the volume on the media player:
- Click Start, Settings, and then Control Panel.
- Double-click on the Multimedia Icon.
- On the audio tab, turn up the volume.
If it is grayed out, this means that the system is not configured for sound. If you have turned up the volume on both your speakers and system, then try turning up the volume on the Windows Media Player.
- Open the Windows Media Player and look for the speaker icon.
- Next to the speaker icon is a slide bar for volume control.
- Or right click anywhere on the Windows Media Player and look for volume in the list.
If you are viewing a 'video' event, right click on the video and you will get the tool bar for volume.
Webcasts - Problems with Conference Call
If you are able to see the slides, but are only hearing music disconnect and call the conference number again at 866-542-4241 and give them the webcast title. You may have been placed in the wrong conference call.
Why can't I view the live webcast?
If the webcast has started and you are unable to successfully view it, you may have firewall restrictions that keep you from receiving streaming media. You may have to contact your own IT department.
When you suspect your firewall is interfering with a webcast, we suggest you view the webcast from a computer outside your firewall, such as a home computer.
The following are the most common problems caused by a firewall:
- The live or archived webcast appears to display fine in the pop-up window. However, no audio or video ever begins playing.
- A grey pop-up login box appears when the live or archived webcast displays in the pop-up window. This is your firewall asking for your network credentials, not your BetterManagement username and password.
If the sound works continuously, but the video freezes. Network congestion can cause the slides to freeze. Try reducing the number of applications you are running. You can also try exiting and coming back into the webcast. If you can access the event, but cannot view the slides or the slides are not flipping try refreshing the presentation by either hitting the F5 key on your keyboard or closing out and relaunching the webcast.
I am trying to join the webcast but am being asked for a password, what is the password?
The password you are being asked for is your BetterManagement.com password. If you can not remember it please click on "Please Sign in, or Register" in the upper right hand corner of the home page, type in your username (email address) and click on forgot password. Your password will be sent to your email address.
How do I work around pop-up blockers in order to view a webcast?
The pop-up blocker in the Toolbar Options menu prevents new windows from automatically opening when you visit a website. The pop-up blocker may also interfere with your ability to view video interviews. To let a pop-up through on a one-time basis, press and hold the CTRL key as you click on a link from the “view presentation” button. The pop-up blocker can create a white list which will remember certain pop-up boxes that you wish to launch. Click the pop-up blocker button to add BetterManagement to your white list.
The archived webcast will not play
The most common problem is that an archived webcast opens up but does not run. You will need to contact your IT administrator to ensure that you are not behind a firewall that is blocking the streaming video from playing.
We have found that due to increased security inside government agencies, their network firewalls do not allow the file types required to view our archived webcasts. We suggest government employees try viewing archived webcasts from home where the firewall restriction may not be a problem.
Why are the Windows Media Player buttons grayed out?
First make sure you have a sound card and speakers installed in your computer. Your company's network firewall may not allow you to play streaming media. Ask your network manager to allow you to download the streaming media file types (.asf, .asx, .rm, .ram) our website uses. Certain ports and network protocols likely need to be configured on your company's firewall to allow your Windows Media Player to play streaming content from BetterManagement's streaming media server hosted at www.bettermanagement.tv. Detailed information on how to set up a firewall to support streaming Windows Media can be found at www.microsoft.com.
How can I test my firewall to see if it allows streaming Windows Media?
Below is a URL to a streaming Windows Media audio file that is used by one of our archived webcasts. Open this URL with Windows Media Player: mms://stream.bettermanagement.com/archivedseminars/4828.asf. If you cannot play this audio file, then your firewall is likely interfering.
To test you firewall to see if your firewall allows archived video webcasts, view our Windows Media 56k Test Video. If your firewall won't allow you play an archived webcast, we suggest you view it from your home computer where the firewall restriction would not be a problem.
What should I do if the media player doesn't appear anywhere on the web page?
First make sure the correct media player is installed on your computer. If the problem persists, the firewall on your company's network may be stripping media player code known as active-x tags out of the web page. Then ask your network manager to not strip active-x tags out of web pages.
